The Empty Office: An International Study of Teleworking
With the spread of remote work arrangements since the pandemic, there is growing interest in how remote working is changing the labour market and what the consequences are for the lives and well-being of workers. As a significant research gap, we still don’t know much about how remote working shapes properties and structure of private and professional relationships, including attachment to the workplace. This project, led by the University of Genève, collects quantitative and qualitative data on the personal networks of teleworkers in four European countries: Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. Using Social Network Analysis, we then test hypotheses on the links between mobile work, personal networks and workers’ well-being. The project aims to provide sound evidence on the effects of mobile work on workers’ well-being and thus helps to build social policies to regulate it.
