NEWS 25.06.2014 ZEW DIFI Report Published: Market for Commercial Real Estate Financing Is Stable on a High Level: In the second quarter of 2014, the German Real Estate Finance Index (DIFI) increased by 1.9 points compared to the previous quarter. Currently reading 24.9 points, the index is further stabilising on the high level of the previous quarters. The slight growth stems from the more positive assessments of the financing situation, which outweigh the slight decrease in the financing expectations. These are the key findings of the quarterly ZEW survey among real estate market experts concerning the real estate financing market in Germany. 47 experts participated in the May 2014 survey. First, citizens continue to show little interest in EU governance, with voter turnout a disappointing 43 per cent. Evidently, the introduction of pan-European candidates for president of the European Commission failed to make the elections more exciting. This had to do with the similarity of the platforms of the two top candidates, Martin Schulz and Jean-Claude Juncker. Both espoused the idea of "more Europe" but neither offered inspiring ideas for the future. The second thing the elections made obvious was that of those who did vote, many used the occasion to voice their frustrations with government at home. Environmental economist Andreas Loeschel assesses the opportunities and risks associated with an energy union. PRESS RELEASES 23.06.2014 - ZEW/Prognos (mac/jpr) ZEW/Prognos Survey on Transport Markets - Moderate Increase in Transport Volumes and Prices Expected: German transport markets are currently in a quite strong shape. The prospects for further growth in transport volumes are good. The increase over the coming half year, however, will be smaller than in the previous months. In most sub-markets of the transport sector, prices will remain stable. There is a growing trend towards rising freight rates, although fuel prices in Germany, which are an important cost factor, are still at a three-year low. These are the findings of the Prognos/ZEW TransportmarktBarometer (Transport Market Barometer) in the second quarter of 2014. In this quarterly survey, Prognos AG, Basel, and the Mannheim Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) survey some 250 top executives from the transport and loading industry about their assessment regarding the development of transport markets and prices on a six-month horizon.
