Energy Transition – Quo Vadis?

Both the UN Climate Change Conference and Germany’s failed coalition talks between the CDU, FDP and the Greens show that, though the path towards an affordable, safe and environmentally friendly energy system may be rocky, it is still one of the current issues critical for our future. Germany’s planned “energy transition”, the sustainable reconstruction of our energy supply, is no longer something in the distant future, but rather an issue for the present.

Is it, however, still realistic for us to meet our climate change targets for 2020? And what changes do we need to make to our energy system to ensure we reach these targets in a cost-effective manner? What sort of framework must the next German government create to guarantee the success of the energy transition? Indeed, the future of Germany’s energy and climate policy has become a major focus of discussion in the government formation process.

We are delighted that the CEO of RWE AG, Dr. Rolf Martin Schmitz, will be able to join us at ZEW to share his view on the situation.

We would like to thank the ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice for supporting the lecture series “First-Hand Information on Economic Policy”.
