Cross Boundary Collaboration: A Study of Open Innovation in the Electricity Sector

The deregulation of electricity markets in many jurisdictions around the world and the growing share of renewable energy in the total energy mix are forcing utilities to re-examine and restructure their business models. This talk – a joint seminar by ZEW and MISES – focuses on current efforts by a consortium of utilities in different countries seeking to promote innovations related to the generation, storage and distribution of electricity. Specifically, this talk will describe the process of funding new digital grid technologies by the utility consortium.
