Macroeconomic Qualification Programme MPS+ for Experts and Managers from Asia Starts at ZEW

Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies (MPS+)

Since mid-September, the qualification programme "Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies" (MPS+) has been taking place at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. ZEW is organising this programme on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH already for the fourth time. Professionals and executives from various ministries and central banks of Asian countries are guests at ZEW for a period of ten weeks. Participants from Vietnam, China, and, for the first time, professionals from Myanmar are taking part in this year's qualification programme.

The programme provides advanced macroeconomic knowledge and consists of modules covering the areas of fiscal and monetary policy, labour and international financial markets, as well as trade theory and trade policy. Moreover, the programme explores growth theories which will be the basis for discussions about development strategies for the participants’ home countries. Due to experiences gathered in the previous years, the focus on sustainability has been expanded. The programme features lectures by ZEW researchers and external experts, for example from Heidelberg University, ETH Zurich, Deutsche Bundesbank, the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), and from the Bundesrechnungshof (Federal Court of Auditors). The participants will also visit the European Central Bank (ECB) and the headquarters of KfW Bankengruppe in Frankfurt.

The MPS+ programme is being organised by ZEW’s Service Department "Knowledge Transfer & Qualification Programmes". Apart from international qualification programmes, the Service Department also offers seminars and custom-tailored training courses for firms and institutions.
