ZEW Economist Bernhard Ganglmair Accepts Professorship at the University of Mannheim

Professor Bernhard Ganglmair took up a professorship of economics with a focus on innovation and competition at the University of Mannheim in mid-July 2020. The appointment of the economist, who has been head of ZEW’s “Competition and Innovation” Junior Research Group since January 2019, will further strengthen the intensive exchange between ZEW Mannheim and the University of Mannheim.

“Thanks to ZEW’s excellent data infrastructure and the university’s internationally renowned economics department, Mannheim offers an ideal environment for research in both innovation and competition economics,” comments Bernhard Ganglmair. “My own research work is increasingly concerned with questions that link these two fields, with legal aspects often playing a key role as well. In this respect, I am also looking forward to a stronger interdisciplinary cooperation with colleagues from the Department of Law as part of the Mannheim Centre for Competition and Innovation.”

Bernhard Ganglmair’s research focuses on technology standardization and patents, trade secrets, competition economics, contracts, and the economic analysis of law. Prior to his position at ZEW, he was an assistant professor of managerial economics at the University of Texas at Dallas. In the past, he also taught at the University of Linz, Austria, and Northeastern University in Boston, US. In January 2019 Bernhard Ganglmair joined ZEW Mannheim as head of the Junior Research Group “Competition and Innovation”.
