Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics
Professor Hanna Hottenrott joined ZEW as head of the research unit “Economics of Innovation and Industrial Dynamics” in April 2023. Her position is linked to a professorship in economics of innovation at the Technical University of Munich’s School of Management, which she has held since 2016. Her research and teaching activities focus on innovation and science economics as well as on the drivers and consequences of transformative technological change. In addition, she deals with questions of innovation policy, especially public R&D funding, as well as the design of start-up and science funding.
From 2006 to 2010, she was a researcher at KU Leuven, where she obtained a PhD in applied economics in 2010. After graduating she was awarded a fellowship from the Flemish Science Foundation and worked as a university assistant at KU Leuven. In 2013, she became assistant professor of economics, in particular applied industrial economics, at the Düsseldorf Institute for Competition Economics (DICE) at Heinrich Heine University.
Professor Hottenrott studied economics at Heidelberg University, specialising in industrial economics, statistics and finance. During her studies, she also spent a year at the University of Sussex.
