Katia Gallegos Torres has been a researcher in the ZEW Research Unit “Labour Markets and Social Insurance” since October 2019, where she is a member of the Junior Research Group “IMES” (Integration of Migrants and Attitudes Towards the Welfare State). Her research interests lie in the fields of political economy, migration economics and applied microeconometrics, with a focus on the labour market integration of refugees and the effects of immigration on local labour markets.
Katia Gallegos Torres completed her bachelor’s degree in economics at the Universidad del Pacífico in Lima, Peru, and her master’s degree at the University of Mannheim. During her studies, she specialised in development economics and political economy. In her master thesis, she analysed the impact of refugee migration to Germany in 2015 on election results and attitudes towards immigration in general. After her studies, she worked as a researcher at the Chair of Econometrics at the University of Mannheim and at the Center for Evaluation and Development Research (C4ED) in Mannheim.
