Redesign of ZEW Website Adopts Accessibility Standards
Dates and NewsStarting today, the website of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, features a new and modern design. It was developed using the future-compliant XHTML and CSS web standards.
Redesigning the website, ZEW attached great importance to accessibility. It aims at providing users with an almost unlimited access to all online services no matter their physical or technical capabilities.
The implementation of the website’s accessibility is based on the requirements of the German Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV) and the recommendations of W3C/WAI. Now that ZEW has taken its first steps towards a barrier-free web design, further adaptation measures will gradually be introduced in order to, step by step, create a fully accessible ZEW website. The barrier-free layout was realised by "blindwerk - neue medien", Rhodt unter der Rietburg.
As part of the redesigning process, ZEW also improved the user-friendliness of its website by introducing a new navigation structure and a sitemap. Other additional features are the help pages and the possibility to navigate through the ZEW website using the keyboard.
