Sebastian Siegloch to Lead New ZEW Research Department “Social Policy and Redistribution”

As of today, Professor Sebastian Siegloch will be leading the new Research Department “Social Policy and Redistribution” at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim. The role as research department head is combined with a professorship in the economics department at the University of Mannheim.

Regarding his new role at ZEW, Siegloch says: “As the head of a new research department, I am looking forward to intensifying my research on the regional effects of tax and labour market policies.” ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach adds: “Sebastian Siegloch is a recognised and much sought-after economist whose work combines aspects of public, labour and urban economics. We are very pleased that he will be joining the ZEW team.”

The Research Department “Social Policy and Redistribution” will investigate the effects of taxation and social policies on the distribution of incomes and wealth. The research findings will inform the public debateand serve as an input for policy recommendations.

Sebastian Siegloch studied economics and political science at the University of Cologne and Sciences Po in Paris, before gaining his doctorate from the University of Cologne in 2013. He then worked as a research associate at the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA) in Bonn and has been an assistant professor of economics at the University of Mannheim since 2014. From August 2017 until mid-2018, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, and Stanford University.
