ZEW Economist Melanie Arntz Appointed to the “Rat der Arbeitswelt”
Dates and NewsThe deputy head of the Research Department “Labour Markets and Social Insurance” at ZEW Mannheim, Professor Melanie Arntz, has been appointed as a member of the “Rat der Arbeitswelt” (“Council of the World of Work”). The independent and interdisciplinary expert commission has the task of preparing an annual report on the world of work, which is handed over to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS).
“The comprehensive structural change particularly affects the world of work. Many people feel the effects of change directly in their jobs. It is therefore particularly important to gain an in-depth understanding of the processes underlying this change and to derive targeted recommendations for action from them. This is the task of our council, the ‘Rat der Arbeitswelt’. As a renowned expert in the field of digitalisation and its impact on the labour markets, Melanie Arntz has many years of profound scientific experience in issues related to the transformation of the world of work. We are very pleased about her appointment to this council. It is a testament to her great work,” says ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach.
Professor Melanie Arntz is investigating how changing framework conditions, especially advancing digitalisation, affect regional labour markets as well as the employment situation and wages of individual actors. “Digitalisation is a driver of change in the labour market. It transforms sectors and occupational fields and affects individual regions to varying degrees. That is why I am pleased to be able to significantly support the ‘Rat der Arbeitswelt’ in its reporting on the world of work with my research focus,” says Melanie Arntz, who, in addition to her work at ZEW, is also a Leibniz Professor of Labour Markets at Heidelberg University.
