Experts and Executive Staff from Vietnam Start MPS+ Qualification Programme at ZEW

Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies (MPS+)

Specialists and managers from Vietnam start at the ZEW MPS+ training program

For the fifth time, experts and executive staff from Asia have come to the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim to take part in the ambitious qualification programme "Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies" (MPS+). This year ZEW welcomes 20 participants from different government institutions from Vietnam, who will complete the ten-week programme with courses held in English.

For the start of the qualification programme, Michael Grötsch, Mannheim’sMayor for Economic Affairs, Employment, Social Affairs and Culture, welcomed the guests from Vietnam in the town hall and gave them an overview of Mannheim as the economic and cultural centre of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. In particular he emphasised the history of great inventors coming from the second-largest city of Baden-Württemberg and Mannheim’s excellent geographical location in the heart of Europe. Stephan Reichert, head of ZEW’s Strategic Planning Unit, thanked Grötsch for the friendly reception and wished the Vietnamese participants an interesting and rewarding stay in Mannheim, where they will acquire a lot of theoretical and practical knowledge.

ZEW is organising this programme on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The programme is open to experts and executive staff from government institutions and central banks of various Asian countries. MPS+ provides advanced macroeconomic knowledge and consists of modules covering the areas of fiscal and monetary policy, labour and international financial markets, as well as trade theory and trade policy. Moreover, the programme explores growth theories substantiating discussions about development strategies for the participants' home countries. Due to experiences gathered in the previous years, the focus on sustainability has been deepened. The programme features lectures by ZEW researchers and external experts, and is supervised by ZEW's Service Department "Knowledge Transfer & Qualification Programmes". Apart from international qualification programmes, the Service Department also offers seminars and custom-tailored training courses for firms and institutions.
