On 21 February 2007, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Strube left the Advisory Board of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), Mannheim, after many years of work.

Professor Strube had been accompanying ZEW since its foundation. From May 1993 to January 2000, he was member of the ZEW’s Scientific Advisory Board continuously accompanying and enriching the research at the institute with his constructive suggestions. Since July 1997 he has been member of the ZEW Advisory Board of which he became vice-chairman in February 1999. During all those years he has devoted his commitment and vision to ZEW thus contributing largely to the strategic progress of the institute. “We are greatly indebted to Professor Strube. His willingness to offer his great business expertise, gained as chief executive and later on as chairman of the BASF Advisory Board, to the ZEW management board was essential for joining scientific analysis to business practice, which is characteristic for the research at ZEW,” says Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Franz and Thomas Kohl, the heads of ZEW.

Professor Strube, however, did not just support the research at the institute as a member of the ZEW management board. He was also actively involved in ZEW events. At the festive event “10 Jahre ZEW” (10 Years of ZEW) in February 2001, he gave a lecture entitled “Wirtschaftliche Integration Europas - Herausforderungen, Chancen, Risiken” (The Economic Integration of Europe – Challenges, Chances and Risks). Furthermore, he participated in the 2005 ZEW Economic Forum holding a presentation on “Wettbewerb der Standorte in Europa” (Competition between Locations in Europe).
