Regarding the future design of climate policy on national, European and international levels, a series of questions have yet to be answered, ranging from the analysis of the incentive effects of different designs of emissions trading to questions about the adequate policy-mix of instruments (regulatory overlap) to the transition of the current framework (avoidance of friction losses). Climate policy issues are taken up by each of the five research areas of the Environment and Resource Economics Department: innovation and sustainable development, energy economics, transport and mobility, international environmental policies, and macroeconomic analysis of environmentally relevant policies. This project was used to expand the co-ordination of these five research areas, so as to promote the understanding of climate protection as a global environmental responsibility, to better focus on the knowledge already available on research activities within the department, and to intensify the research in this area. Among many other things, one output of this project was the initiation of two other research projects that are concerned with the introduction of emissions trading in the transportation sector (pilot study and follow-up). Furthermore, the results of the climate policy-oriented research of the department have been compiled in the internet to facilitate access. A separate web page, called " Climate Platform", supports the co-ordination work done in this project and makes it outwardly transparent. Among other things, an interactive application of available models is provided. The Climate Platform can be found under climate.zew.de
