The recent rise of smartphones and tablet PCs has undoubtedly been the most significant change in the market of end user computational devices over the last decade. An integral part of this revolution are applications, mini programs which allow users to extend the often minimalistic basic functionality of their mobile devices. Yet, the consequences for privacy that result from the increased usage of mobile devices and applications remain an important and not completely understood issue. We plan to provide evidence on how consumers react to the access permissions that applications request when installing them. We want to estimate the determinants of demand and will show how the demand for applications reacts to the permissions required upon installation.
