ZEW employee Lucie Berger has successfully completed her training as an office management assistant with additional qualifications as a foreign language secretary and project assistant. ZEW congratulates Ms. Berger on completing her training and hopes to support further vocational training programmes recognised by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the future.

“Providing practical vocational training is a key element to ZEW’s success as a research institute – our research activities rely on the support of our employees in the Service Departments. We would like to congratulate Lucie Berger on her achievement. We at ZEW are proud to offer such high-quality training to our employees and are thrilled that Ms. Berger will continue to work with us here at the institute,” says ZEW Director Thomas Kohl.

Vocational training at the institute

After two and a half years of training, Lucie Berger has the official title of office management assistant with additional qualifications as a foreign language secretary and project assistant as of 24 January 2018. For the theoretical side of the course, Ms. Berger attended classes at the Max-Hachenburg-Schule in Mannheim as well as additional English classes funded by ZEW. In addition, she underwent comprehensive practical training at ZEW where she completed placements in the various Service Departments fully involving her in the day-to-day running of the institute. During this time she learned how to put the knowledge she had gained in class into practice in various areas of operations, from human resources to finance and accounting and event management. Her training also included a stay in London to further develop her English skills for the additional qualification as a foreign language secretary. “I have gained a lot of practical experience and even during my training had the opportunity to work fairly independently,” says Ms. Berger. In qualifying as a project assistant, she was also given new responsibilities related to pending projects.

Careers at ZEW

ZEW believes it has a social responsibility to support young people in getting a foot on the career ladder. The institute is certified to provide vocational training by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Rhine-Neckar and has been training young people in a variety of different fields on a regular basis since 1998. ZEW’s wide variety of traineeships, helpful staff as well as the high degree of independence given to trainees make the institute not only an attractive employer but also the ideal setting for completing vocational training.
