The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) has been named a member institute of the International Consortium of China Studies (ICCS) at Peking University's National School of Development. Along with Zhejiang University, with which ZEW was organising a German-Chinese workshop, Peking University is one of the most influential universities in the People's Republic of China. ZEW is thus further developing its network in China.

The ICCS is an international platform currently consisting of 24 selected scientific institutions which are carrying out research into China's economic development. The ICCS Conference takes place on an annual basis, alternating between China and other countries, and promotes exchange and collaboration between its member institutes. This year, members of ICCS met at the University of Oxford in Great Britain. Subsequent to a number of presentations which introduced research projects focused on the Chinese economy, ZEW was officially named as a new member institution of the ICCS at the conference.

At the same time, ZEW intensifies its collaboration with Zhejiang University in China. The two institutions are holding a scientific workshop together this week focusing on innovation and high-tech entrepreneurship in the Chinese city of Hangzhou. Economists from leading German and Chinese research institutes, including the University of Mannheim, the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI), as well as Peking University, Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are participating in the event.

The 30 international speakers delivering presentations during the workshop also include researchers from the ZEW Research Department "Industrial Economics and International Management", who will present research findings which are particularly relevant to R&D in China. The workshop receives funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) as well as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and will further develop the cooperation agreement concluded between Zhejiang University and ZEW in 2014.
