ZEW Welcomes Humboldt Research Fellow to Conduct Research on China’s Climate Goals
Guests at ZEWAs part of the International Climate Protection Fellowship offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Dr. Jie Wu from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in China is conducting a research visit at ZEW from 26 March 2018 until 28 February 2019. During her time in the ZEW Research Department “Environmental and Resource Economics, Environmental Management”, she will be conducting research into how China can successfully meet its climate goals.
As an assistant professor at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Jie Wu conducts research in the area of macroeconomics. Her primary research interests include climate policy, computable general equilibrium (CGE) models and energy economics. During her research visit in Mannheim, she intends to focus on how China can meet its national climate goals through emissions trading, using the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) as an example. She is being supervised in her research by the deputy head of the research department Dr. Sebastian Voigt. “Being at ZEW and getting to work on a research project here is a great opportunity. I would like to thank ZEW and especially Dr. Sebastian Voigt for the excellent support and cooperation,” says Dr. Jie Wu.
The highly sought-after fellowships financed by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation allow outstanding researchers to conduct a research stay in Germany. During their visit, researchers have the opportunity to carry out a research project of their own design with a research partner of their choice. ZEW regularly hosts Humboldt research fellows; as well as Dr. Jie Wu, a German Chancellor fellow conducting research on the future of mobility is also currently completing a research stay at the institute. The institute also frequently plays host to Chinese researchers and academic delegations and is busy consolidating its many research links with economic experts in China.
About the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s Climate Protection Fellowship
The International Climate Protection Fellowship offered by the Humboldt Foundation provides funding to young climate experts from emerging and developing countries outside of Europe to conduct a year-long research project in Germany. Initially, the research fellows visit companies and research institutions as well as cultural events in Germany and establish a network of contacts. The programme also offers extensive alumni sponsorship which helps fellows to get in contact with potential research partners all over Germany. Fellows also benefit from one-on-one mentoring throughout the entirety of their research stay.
