Experts and Executive Staff from Vietnamese Institutions Visit ZEW
Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies (MPS+)Experts and executive staff from Asia are participating in the qualification programme "Strengthening Macroeconomic Policies" (MPS+) in Mannheim for the sixth time. Organised and hosted by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW), the programme features courses and trainings on a variety of topics related to economic policy. This year ZEW welcomes 20 participants from different Vietnamese government institutions, including the country's central bank and several ministries. In the next two months they will attend in-depth training and seminars on macroeconomic issues at ZEW.
The programme started with a reception in the Town Hall, where Christian Specht, the First Mayor of Mannheim, welcomed the participants. In his welcome address, he described Mannheim as the centre of the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region to the Vietnamese guests, and emphasized the growing importance of an international character for Mannheim as a business location. Specht incorporated key figures comparing the German and the Vietnamese economy in his speech.
ZEW is organising the MPS+ programme on behalf of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The programme is open to experts and executive staff from various Asian countries. MPS+ provides advanced macroeconomic knowledge and consists of modules covering the areas of monetary and fiscal policy, banks and financial markets, as well as trade theory and trade policy. Moreover, the programme explores growth theories that are the basis for analysing development strategies for the participants’ home country.
The lecturers within the programme are ZEW researchers and external experts. Beyond seminar attendance, the participants also complete an online prep course. Afterwards, there will be another meeting in Vietnam where the participants will reflect upon the impact of the training on their everyday work.
The MPS+ programme is being organised by ZEW’s Service Department "Knowledge Transfer & Qualification Programmes". Apart from international qualification programmes, the Service Department also offers seminars and tailor-made training courses for firms and institutions.
