In this project, the situation of the SME sector in the federal state of Bremen is analysed. The objective is to create a data base which can be used as a basis for the assessment of the current situation of the SME sector in Bremen and the environment in which it operates. This involves on the one hand an inventory of the current economic situation at the federal level as well as the special conditions for medium, small and micro enterprises (SMEs) in Bremen. On the other hand, the data base of the SME report 2010 is updated and complemented with further data bases such as the Mannheim Firm Panel (MUP) and the Mannheim Innovation Panel (MIP). The main topic of this report are the business services. For this sector the number, structure and development of the firms are analysed and the specific challenges are discussed.
