Analyses of the Costs and Benefits of School Closures for the Containment of COVID-19

Analyses of the Costs and Benefits of School Closures for the Containment of COVID-19

Client/Allowance

VolkswagenStiftung

Period: 01.02.2021 – 30.06.2024

The aim of the project is to empirically assess the costs and benefits of school closures enacted in response to the spread of COVID-19. Benefits are measured by the contribution of the interventions to reduce the number of infections. The considered costs result from learning gaps suffered by children of different socio-economic groups (paying special attention to vulnerable children) and the implications for educational inequality.
