Critical Appraisal and Further Developments of General Equilibrium Models

Critical Appraisal and Further Developments of General Equilibrium Models

Period: 01.08.2007 – 31.12.2009

Applied (computable) general equilibrium models (CGE models) are an important tool used in the international research community in order to quantify the macroeconomic effects of politico-economic measures. Besides the analysis of tax and trade policies CGE models have become a standard tool for assessing the impact of emission reduction strategies in environmental economics. For many years, the research area “Environmental and Resource Economics, Environmental Management” is concerned with the evaluation of environmental policies from a macroeconomic point of view. The main tool applied for economic analysis is a modular system of applied CGE models which allows the quantification of trade-offs between ecology, economy and social development within a microeconomic consistent framework. The project aimed at a systematic appraisal and further developments of the existing modular systems. This included the examination and review of the models with respect to their operational usability, the uniform adjustment of the models to current databases, and the identification of further policy-relevant developments of the modular systems.
