The project work is related to the activities of the Federal Environmental Ministry (BMU) especially in the context of the German G8 presidency in the subject area of increasing energy efficiency in important industrial and newly industrialising countries. The potential of increasing energy efficiency in various countries will be reviewed and the possibilities of raising those potentials will be analysed. Selected measures to increase energy efficiency will then be examined with regard to their economic impact as well as consequences for greenhouse gas emissions.
