Employment and Qualification in the Cultural and Creative Industries - Quo Vadis?

Workshop

Businesses in the cultural and creative industries count among the most important employers in Germany. In total, the number of core employees in these industries amounts to almost 1.1 million. At the same time, the structure of employment shows some differences in comparison with other sectors. For instance, the number of small and micro-enterprises is higher than average in the cultural and creative industries. Furthermore, this sector is characterised by a considerable share of so-called solo self-employed individuals.

Against this background, ZEW will be hosting a workshop to examine questions related to the employment and qualification of individuals in the cultural and creative industries. The workshop will focus on past developments, the current situation as well as future developments regarding forms of employment, successful strategies and further training schemes.

On the basis of field reports of various sub-markets in the cultural and creative industries, the event will provide practical insights and determine the future challenges of the working world resulting from the progressing digitalisation. Together with the participants and speakers, we are looking forward to discuss questions such as: What qualifications are necessary? How do training programmes need to be adapted to the rapidly evolving environment? How high is the demand for further training and how can it be met?
