Eleventh Eberbacher Cloister Conversations
WorkshopEconomics of the Transformation of the Energy System
Energy use in Germany is subject to various taxes and levies. Against the background of ambitious climate goals, the question, however, arises whether price incentives provided by the existing regime on energy taxes and levies are effectively supporting these targets. How could this system be revised? Which potential alternatives exist and what are the expected greenhouse gas emission reductions associated with these alternatives? How does, for example, a comprehensive carbon tax affect the heating sector and sector coupling? In which way do levies need to be adjusted to achieve a cost-efficient integration of renewable energy sources? These topics will be discussed at the Eleventh Eberbacher Cloister Conversations, which will be organised by the Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Regional Development (HMWEVL), the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) and the University of Münster.
