3 Shades of Artificial Intelligence
First-Hand Information on Economic Policy5G and Quantum Computing Setting the Stage for Next Generation AI
It sounds just like a science fiction movie: travelling in an ICE without a train driver; working from the passenger seat while your car drives autonomously; riding in a driverless bus through the city. Applications of artificial intelligence will increasingly become part of our everyday lives. Technical advances such as the expansion of 5G networks or the development of quantum computers with computing power that has hardly been imaginable so far hold an apparently infinite potential for the further development of artificial intelligence. We are at the dawn of a new era.
These new dimensions of research are pushing the boundaries of our previous notions of technology. With the fourth industrial revolution being marked by intelligent technological systems, the 4.0 revolution is basically an AI revolution. This radical breakthrough will shape not only our mobility but also broad sections of the economy and society. At the same time, the so-called vendor change, which has permeated all industrial revolutions so far, poses extraordinary challenges for Germany and Europe.
Professor Sabina Jeschke is a member of the Management Board for Digitalization and Technology at Deutsche Bahn AG. After holding professorships at RWTH Aachen, the University of Stuttgart and the TU Berlin, she changed into the business sector in 2017. How the next phases of AI may look like, which possibilities this fourth industrial revolution opens for future mobility, and to what extent it can contribute to strengthening and supporting the railway system, will be discussed in the lecture at ZEW.
Please note that the event will be held in German.
We would like to thank the ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice for supporting the lecture series “First-Hand Information on Economic Policy”.
