Banks and Green Technology
ZEW Lectures on Economic PolicyThe Limits to Lending
This lecture will discuss how bank-based financial systems may slow down the green transition. Using global evidence from the past 30 years, Ralph de Haas will discuss how countries with deeper stock markets seem to have the upper hand in facilitating green growth. After discussing why this may the case, he will consider the conditions under which banks can (and cannot) help firms to become cleaner producers. The lecture will end with a discussion of policy options to help financial sectors become greener.
