ZEW/KMRC Wikipedia Workshop

Workshop

The impact of Wikipedia and other productive online communities (Web 2.0) on the process of knowledge creation as well as on the development and dissemination of ICT in society is growing enormously. Consequently, a growing number of interdisciplinary researchers focus on the process of content generation in online communities, in particular on content structure, development trends, and user interaction patterns.

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim and the Knowledge Media Research Center (KMRC) in Tübingen jointly conduct the project "Knowledge Spillovers and Content Valuation in Online Collaboration" within the framework of the ScienceCampus Tübingen. Within this project we organize a workshop with the aim to foster interdisciplinary analysis of online communities. We have invited a group of international researchers who work in the field of Wikipedia. The scholars, who come from various disciplines (economics, psychology, sociology, and computer science), will present research ideas and methodological approaches. Furthermore, a representative from the German Wikimedia foundation will share his expertise on Wikipedia’s internal processes and new tools available for research on Wikipedia.
