Thushyanthan Baskaran has been holding the Chair for Applied Microeconomics at the University of Siegen since October 2015. He completed his diploma degree in economics at the Freie Universität Berlin and his PhD at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg. Afterwards, he worked as a postdoc at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and as an assistant professor at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. His research mainly addresses questions of political economy, regional economics, as well as public economics. In his scientific articles he studies topics like political business cycles, tax competition, and quality of political institutions. Mr. Baskaran has published his work in leading international journals like the "Journal of Urban Economics" or the "Journal of Public Economics".
