The aim of the research project is to develop, generate and analyse a firm-level panel data set that can be used to evaluate input, output and behavioural additionality of R&D and innovation funding programmes in the business enterprise sector. A main part of the research is to combine administrative data from funding programmes (including the amount of funding and other funding characteristics such as field of technology, co-operation partners, and types of public financial support) with firm-level characteristics on R&D and innovation activities as well as other variables relevant for evaluating programme additionality. For this purpose, data collected through the German R&D Survey and the German Innovation Survey will be combined with funding data at the micro level. The panel data set is being investigated in terms of its feasibility to execute different methods of causal impact analyses, including matching techniques, difference-in-difference analysis, or regression discontinuity analysis.
