The interplay between pension policy and individual Health against the background of a changing world of work

Heterogeneous health trajectories and occupational stresses are crucial for the labor market participation of older persons and thus for the transition to retirement. But how do health trajectories differentiate by occupational groups and what heterogeneous effects do pension reforms and changes in the world of work have?

The project team is investigating these questions in the FNA-funded project "The Interplay of Pension Policies and Individual Health in the Context of a Changing World of Work."

As part of the project, a life-cycle model is being developed. In it, the health of individuals plays a decisive role in labor market decisions; however, work - differentiated by occupational group - has just as much of an impact on health. Using administrative and survey data, the project team estimates the relevant parameters of the model to estimate the impact of changing external influences.

Changes in the pension system often have heterogeneous effects on labor market participation among older women, and at the same time they often increase inequalities in health trajectories. It will be interesting to see how this behaves specifically by occupational group and how the German pension system influences the interplay.
