Skill Mismatch: Microeconomic Evidence and Macroeconomic Relevance

The Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) is pleased to announce the workshop “Skill Mismatch: Microeconomic Evidence and Macroeconomic Relevance” in Mannheim on April 10-11, 2014. The objective of the workshop is to bring together 15-20 economists and scholars in related fields of research from Europe and overseas.

We particularly invite empirical as well as theoretical contributions related to the following topics:

• New/advanced measures for skill mismatch
• Theoretical frameworks explaining the existence of suboptimal skill matches
• Determinants and consequences of skill/qualification mismatch for individuals and firms
• Trends in and determinants of aggregate skill shortages and skill imbalances
• Characteristics of education systems affecting job match quality
• Relevance and extent of skill mismatch during the crisis
• Policy implications of mismatch

Paper Submission

The deadline for submission of full papers or extended abstracts is February 1, 2014. Please submit papers in PDF or MS Word format to mismatch2014@zew.de. Decisions of acceptance will be announced no later than February 17, 2014. Participants are requested to register by February 28, 2014.

Conference Fee

For participants presenting a paper accommodation will be covered by ZEW. In addition, a selected number of travel grants will be available (preferably for presenters from abroad and/or PhD students). We invite interested participants (non-presenters) to register by sending an e-mail to mismatch2014@zew.de no later than February 17, 2014. Please note that only a limited number of non-presenters will be able to attend the workshop. The conferencefee for non-presenters is EUR 60, covering workshop materials, coffee breaks, and lunch on the second day of the workshop.
