It is a well-known fact that start-ups, in particular in innovative and technology-oriented sectors, are vital for the economic competitiveness and performance. The decision to found a new company is based on various factors. In general, research distinguishes between the founders and the environment as influencing factors (Blanchflower, 2000, Verheul et al., 2002). Previous studies in the series "High-Tech Start-ups in Germany" primarily focused on the company's features and the founders. In addition to the personal characteristics, the regional conditions also play an important role for the founding decision and the company's success. Thus, this report focuses on the regional impact on start-ups. The full report is available in German only but an executive summary in english is available for download.
