Potentials of the German Industry - Value Added, Resilience and Strategic Advantages

Considering the overall situation of German economy, the aim of this study is to empirically analyze the existing strengths and future development opportunities of German industry with regard to sectors, subject areas, technologies and markets. It also examines the opportunities and challenges for German industry due to major developments in society as a whole (in particular digitalization and decarbonization).

Furthermore, those value chains will be identified that are particularly important for German industry and the German economy and should therefore be secured and strengthened as a matter of priority. It is also planned to identify areas in which industrial capacities should be maintained due to their social importance in order to achieve a certain strategic independence and resilience. In addition, recommendations for action for industrial policy are to be developed on how German industry can be strengthened and its future development opportunities exploited. The results of the analyses and recommendations for action will be reflected upon and refined in a stakeholder process.
