The aim of this study is to update a report on key innovation indicators for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. In a concise way, the study offers an overview on the state and recent developments in research and innovation in the German chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as in science and technology related to chemistry and pharmaceuticals.

Indicators cover R&D and innovation activities of firms, research and education in the public sector as well as economic results of innovation efforts (including exports of high-technology goods).

As a special topic, the 2023 edition of the report analyses the use of the newly introduced R&D tax credit in Germany by firms from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the potential for this scheme.
