Economist From Rutgers University Receives ZEW's Heinz König Young Scholar Award

This year's Heinz König Young Scholar Award goes to Jitao Tang,

Teaching Assistant at Rutgers University. Jitao Tang is already the ninth laureate of the award endowed by the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim. This time, the award is sponsored by the Günter J. and Christa Grochla Stiftung. It includes an endowment of 5,000 EUR and a three-month research visit to ZEW.

ZEW honours Jitao Tang's theoretical and empirical paper analysing the impact of environmental regulation in different countries on foreign direct investments. During the award ceremony, ZEW President Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Wolfgang Franz emphasised that Jitao Tang's development of a theoretical model which he brought to an empirical test is entirely in Heinz König's spirit.

The Heinz König Young Scholar Award is named after ZEW's late founding director Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Heinz König. It awards excellent empirical papers by young researchers. Every year, the Heinz König Young Scholar Award is given to the author of the best paper presented at the end of the annual ZEW Summer Workshop. All submitted papers undergo a thorough evaluation process, and the best are chosen.

15 young researchers from Africa, China, North America, and Europe were invited to the ZEW Summer Workshop 2012 on Trade and the Environment. They had the opportunity to discuss their research with other young researchers and renowned economists. This year, ZEW welcomed Prof. Brian R. Copeland, PhD, from the University of British Columbia and Prof. M. Scott Taylor, PhD, from the University of Calgary.
