Alumni Day at ZEW
Dates and NewsAfter a two-year break due to the pandemic, ZEW Mannheim was able to resume its annual alumni meeting on 16 September 2022. Around 60 former employees accepted the invitation and were delighted to meet up with former colleagues again. The event included plenty of opportunities for networking and conversation, in addition to informative presentations.
Many ZEW alumni hold top positions in business, research and the public sector and are still closely connected to the institute. In career talks, three alumni shared their experiences and offered career tips to active ZEW members. Professor Andreas Lange, professor of economics at the University of Hamburg and ZEW Research Associate, Dr. Fabienne Rasel, officer at the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and Dr. Peter Westerheide, chief economist at BASF SE and ZEW Research Associate, talked about their time at ZEW and how the experiences they gained there have benefited their further careers. The presentations were met with great interest, especially among ZEW’s young researchers.
Panel discussion on climate policy
ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach and ZEW Managing Director Thomas Kohl reported on the latest developments and future plans of ZEW. This year’s event was organised by ZEW’s Research Unit “Environmental and Climate Economics”. One of the event’s highlights was a high-profile panel of experts discussing the topic “Europe in Crisis Mode: The Future of Climate Policy”.
The panel included
- Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action,
- Saori Dubourg, member of the executive board at BASF SE,
- Professor Sebastian Rausch, head of the ZEW Research Unit “Environmental and Climate Economics” and
- ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach.
Afterwards, the guests and the ZEW team enjoyed a cheerful get-together with music and a buffet. The event was supported by the ZEW Sponsors’ Association for Science and Practice.
