The ZEW Communications Team was once again distinguished at the Fifteenth International Creative Media Award (ICMA) ceremony. The ZEW 2023 Annual Report received Silver in the “Annual Report” category and Gold in the “Infographics” subcategory. With its focus on “Transformation”, the annual report came out on top among 407 international submissions from 21 countries. The award puts fresh emphasis on the high-quality creativity and international relevance of ZEW’s publications.
ZEW’s 2023 Annual Report was dedicated to socially relevant transformation. The editorial team worked to deliver clear content, while the design team was responsible for the visual implementation. From public health to AI regulations to innovative capacity, the annual report got to the heart of complex issues in an accessible manner.

Through our communications, we aspire to convey ZEW’s research findings in a comprehensible, appealing manner that holds up to high design standards. And we have been successful in this mission. “The topic of ‘Transformation’ is central to economics, science and society. In order to capture processes of change and transformation both aesthetically and technically, we employ a clear, minimalist concept design combined with futuristic elements that have an almost ethereal effect on the report. Reduced colours and concise typography contrast with the ever-changing surfaces, shapes and design elements that permeate the pages,” adds Janin Villhauer, head of the design team. Last but not least, the ICMA award underlines the creative value of the publication.

The ICMA is an international design competition for corporate publications, books, corporate identities, logos, and magazines. The International Editorial Design & Research Forum has been awarding prizes to outstanding publications in various categories since 2010. The aim of the competition is to showcase worldwide design trends, reward outstanding work, and promote creative exchange at the international level.
