ZEW President Contributes Economic Expertise to Council

Achim Wambach Appointed to the German Ethics Council.

ZEW President Professor Achim Wambach appointed by President of the German Bundestag Bärbel Bas.

“I am grateful for the appointment and very pleased to be able to bring an economic perspective to the work of the German Ethics Council. Economics is the science concerned with the allocation of scarce resources. Distribution issues, such as in health care, are often at the heart of the societal questions the Ethics Council addresses. Social and economic behaviour, as well as the effects of norms, information, and incentives, are also subjects of modern economic research that are relevant to a wide range of societal issues,” says Professor Achim Wambach. “Especially in times of rapid technological, economic, and scientific developments, the Ethics Council plays a key role in advising policymakers.”

About Achim Wambach

Wambach has been president of ZEW Mannheim since 2016, and has extensive experience in economic policy advising. As a former chair of the German Monopolies Commission and the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, as well as a government advisor, Wambach has been actively involved in policy design and advisory work in a variety of areas.
