Germany has the Choice – What do the Election Manifestos say?
#ZEWPodcastZEW Podcast with ZEW Economist Holger Stichnoth
Germany has the choice. On 23 February a new Bundestag will be elected. The political parties have all come up with proposals and set out their manifestos with information what they plan to do after the election – if they are elected into government. But what would be the financial implications of these election promises for private households and Germany’s federal budget? Which income groups would have more in their wallets, which groups would have less? Researchers at ZEW Mannheim have analysed the election programmes of the political parties for which it is realistic to assume that they will be represented in the Bundestag . Holger Stichnoth, head of the ZEW’s Research Group “Inequality and Public Policy” and Professor of Economics at the University of Strasbourg, and podcast host Fabian Oppel are discussing in this ZEW Podcast what ‘analysed’ means in this context, what the study has revealed and what has been the response to the study so far.
