High School Competition YES! 2023
Dates and NewsZEW Team in the Grand Final and Regional Final South-West on 13 July at ZEW Mannheim
Germany’s largest high school competition on economic and social issues is in full swing. In regional preliminary rounds, school teams from all over Germany are currently competing for a spot in the national final in Hamburg.
Fortunately, the team from Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Bad Dürkheim emerged victorious in the West regional finals. Mentored by ZEW researcher Marius Cziriak and Manuel Vogler from the University of Mannheim, their group tackled the topic “Attractive financial education for young people – How can that work?” (in German). They designed a board game called “Finanzfuchs” (“Financial Fox”), which enables children, teenagers, and even adults to acquire and enhance their financial knowledge. ZEW Mannheim extends hearty congratulations to the entire team and their supporters.
ZEW will be hosting the South-West regional finals in Mannheim on 13 July 2023, anticipating the participation of over 100 young people, their mentors, and intriguing topics and pitches. A total of nine teams will be competing, including four ZEW teams focusing on the following topics:
- Wie können digitale Tools aktuelle Probleme im Gesundheitswesen lösen (in German)
- Bildungsgerechtigkeit 2.0: Chancen und Risiken im digitalen Zeitalter (in German)
- Digitalisierung in der Arbeitswelt: Fluch oder Segen? (in German)
- Attraktive Finanzbildung für junge Leute – Wie geht das? (second ZEW team on the topic, in German)
ZEW wishes all participants a successful and enjoyable competition!
About YES!
The YES! – Young Economic Solutions (formerly Young Economic Summit) is a joint project of the German National Library of Economics (ZBW) – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics and the Joachim Herz Stiftung in Hamburg. YES! is one of the biggest high school competitions in Germany looking at issues affecting the future of our world. Over the course of a six-month mentoring programme, student teams tackle pressing issues facing future generations. The students come up with their own solutions to global economic, ecological and social problems and present them as part of the YES! – Young Economic Solutions conference to other students. Researchers from various Leibniz institutions support the students by providing their scientific expertise.
