Research Seminars

The Decarbonization Seminar hosts speakers and participants from academia and industry to discuss latest advances and challenges associated with the transition towards a decarbonized energy economy. Topics include the economics and management of sustainable energy technologies in the energy sector, clean energy transportation services, and carbon-free manufacturing processes.

Seminar sessions will usually be held as a hybrid event on Monday afternoons from 05:15 to 06:30 pm (CEST). The seminar homepage provides the current program. To join in person, just come to the room O 129 (i.e., in the castle, building Ostflügel, level 1, room 129). To join virtually, please register in advance for the seminar newsletter, through which you will receive the link to join.  

The seminar is jointly sponsored by the Mannheim Institute for Sustainable Energy Studies (MISES) and the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW). The organizing team is comprised of Amadeus Bach (MISES),  Gunther Glenk (MISES), Marion Ott (ZEW) and Nikolas Wölfing (MISES).

External researchers regularly come to ZEW to present and discuss current research results from economics, law and social sciences with ZEW researchers. Our seminar series offer an ideal platform for this.

The Environmental Economics Brownbag Seminar series is a cooperation between ZEW and the universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg. The seminar brings together environmental and resource economists from the whole metropolitan area as well as external speakers to present and discuss cutting edge work. It typically takes place once a month. Anyone interested in the topic  is welcome to attend.

The Mannheim Applied Seminar features current applied micro and macroeconomic research. International scholars will present their recent work and discuss it with the participants.

The seminars are addressed at researchers as well as students and take place every Wednesday at 12:15–1:30 pm during lecture times.

The Mannheim Applied Seminar is jointly organised by ZEW and the University of Mannheim.

Environmental, energy, and ecological problems have grown faster than their solutions. Economists have an important role to play to address these issues by using the latest science, rigorous methods and innovative policy solutions. The SWEEEP webinar series aims to convene the academic community to contribute to the scientific, economic, and policy discourses on important environmental and energy issues. The seminar presentations are scheduled to last 60 minutes, with questions at the end.

The ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research is a leading German economic policy institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. ZEW's applied research aims to study and help design well-performing markets and institutions in Europe. In particular, it seeks to understand how to create a market framework that will enable the sustainable and efficient development of European economies.

The Centre for Energy Policy and Economics (CEPE) was established in 1999 to complement the natural science and technical-oriented disciplines at ETH Zurich, by contributing to research and teaching in energy policy and economics.  Through rigorous application of modern empirical methods, the goal of CEPE is to make critical contributions to the design and evaluation of energy and climate policy instruments.

The Virtual Market Design Seminar is a virtual seminar series covering all areas of market design.

Presentations are usually held bi-weekly on Mondays at 4pm.
The seminar lasts 60 minutes, with opportunities for comments and questions during and after the presentation.

The seminar series is jointly organized by ZEW, ENS Paris-Saclay and the Universities of Munster and Cologne.
